Every major language app sells you a tier. Duolingo has Free, Plus, Super, and Max. Babbel has monthly, six-month, and annual pricing. Rosetta Stone offers subscriptions and lifetime licenses. The pricing architecture is the same everywhere: pay more to unlock more.
Voicely has one price: $149 per month for your V-program, or $199 as a standalone monthly rate. There are no tiers. No annual unlock. No premium features behind a paywall. The pricing model is different because the underlying model is different.
The V-number is computed, not chosen
When you complete your VOICECAST assessment, HEXI does something no other app does: it computes a specific duration. Not a range. Not "beginners might take 3-6 months." A number — V4, V7, V11 — that comes from three inputs: your placement score across all four rings, the distance between that level and your target, and a language-difficulty multiplier calibrated to your native language.
A native English speaker targeting conversational Québécois French at a B1 level from an A2 placement gets a different number than the same English speaker targeting B1 Mandarin from A0. The V-number is the honest answer to the question most learners are afraid to ask: how long is this actually going to take?
Commitment architecture is a feature
Open-ended subscriptions have a structural problem: they don't create completion pressure. If you subscribe to a streaming service, you don't think about finishing it. You dip in and out. Most language app subscriptions work the same way — you pay monthly, you do some lessons, you feel vaguely productive, and eventually you stop.
A V-program has a start and an end. HEXI reminds you of your completion target at the beginning of every session. Your program dashboard shows time remaining. The ring tracking shows you compound progress week over week. This is not gamification — it is commitment architecture, the difference between a gym membership and a personal training program.
Dörnyei (2009): investment in a defined outcome creates motivational self-regulation that open-ended commitment cannot. The learner who has committed to a V7 has a different relationship with their training than one who has committed to "a subscription."
V3+ compounding
After your first V-program, if you continue to a V3 or beyond, your next program is 30% less expensive. The compounding model rewards commitment to the full language fitness trajectory. At V18 and above, you receive a Completion Certificate verifiable against your VOICECAST ring history.
The price model is not a marketing decision. It is the architecture of a program that begins with honesty about duration, tracks progress at the ring level, and ends with a defined outcome. That is what makes it different from a tier.
